	 The program. Some legacy practices regarding US and PCT powers of
		attorney raise issues of professional responsibility. An inventors'
		declaration, if poorly worded, could lead to an attorney having multiple
		clients. An inventors' declaration could lead to the client finding it
		difficult or almost impossible to discharge counsel. A failure to secure proper
		assignments could lead to the client being unable to grant a Power of Attorney
		to new counsel. 
	 In the world of Patent Cooperation Treaty patent applications, some
		legacy practices can lead to a situation where it is difficult or nearly
		impossible for the client to discharge counsel and to grant a new Power of
		Attorney. 
	 Learn the "best practices" from the point of view of the corporate
		client, that minimize any impediments to firing of old counsel and retaining
		new counsel. 
	 Learn the "best practices" from the practitioner's point of view, for
		minimizing potential conflicts of interest (having mixed duties to the inventor
		as well as to the "real" client) and for setting things up so as to pursue the
		client's interests.

		<LI>Making sure that proper assignments are in place with reel and frame
		 numbers easy to find</LI> 
		<LI>use of "designations of common representative" instead of individual
		 Powers of Attorney from PCT inventors</LI>

	 The faculty? The presenter will be Carl Oppedahl, practicing
		patent attorney and adjunct professor at the University of Denver law school.
		Professor Oppedahl obtained his BA in physics from Grinnell College and his JD
		from Harvard Law School. He is chair of the Patent Cooperation Treaty Issues
		Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is admitted
		to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and before
		many courts. He has spoken at dozens of professional meetings and CLE programs
		over the past twenty-five years. 
	 Who should attend? There are two target audiences for this
		program. 
	 <UL> 
		<LI>First, in-house corporate attorneys (regardless of whether they are
		 admitted to practice before the USPTO or not) should attend, so that they will
		 know how to avoid getting "boxed in" to a situation where it is difficult or
		 impossible to fire outside patent counsel. </LI> 
		<LI>Second, outside patent counsel should attend, so that they can avoid
		 inadvertently having multiple clients and the conflicts of interest that can
		 follow. </LI>

	 Format? This program is a webinar, meaning a seminar offered over
		the Web. It is anticipated that at some law firm and corporate locations, the
		presentation-slide content of the webinar will be projected upon a screen in a
		conference room. Other attendees will view the presentation on their own
		computers. Audio will be provided both through computer speakers and by means
		of dial-in telephone numbers. Participants will be able to submit typed
		questions through the webinar system. After the webinar has finished,
		participants will be requested to complete an online evaluation form. 
	 Many attendees will find it convenient to receive the audio through
		their computer speakers, which is free of any per-minute charge. It will also
		be possible to dial in to a conference bridge to receive the audio; this will
